This morning Derek shared about
God’s greatness as compared to the nations who are but
grains of dust on scales in comparison. The workers at the site
wrote “Feliz Cumple Años Donaldo” for Dad on
the “cajon” (left) they made for him. I went with
Alfredo to the future La Providencia office at the end of the
main street in Siguatepeque.
Work continued with each member
confidently knowing what to do without having to constantly ask
Luis or Evelio (the foreman). While we worked, Drew and Sharon
were given a wonderful opportunity to drive with Mizael on an
all-day trip to Danli to visit their child, Susan, they sponsor
through Compassion International. They reflected that the ten
hours of driving was worth the twenty minute visit. It was
exciting to see Sharon’s face light up as she spoke about
Susan and their time together.
The Americans took on the Honduran
National team after lunch for an extended soccer match. That
is, we played for 30 minutes straight versus ten or fifteen
minutes as we did the previous days. It was a tight match with
the Americans scoring in the last minute to tie the score, 2-2,
in a heated battle. Whereas the Honduran workers went right to
their jobs after the game, the exhausted Americans took several
minutes to recover.
That evening we had a late but tasty
dinner of empañadas. Eric sang his most unusual and
quite humorous rendition of “Happy Birthday” to Dad
and afterwards we all enjoyed a upside down pineapple birthday
cake. The praise time was again spirited and Omar shared about
his testimony about coming to the U.S. in the context of
Gideon, one with whom God worked through so greatly despite his
weaknesses. We then re-told all the jokes to Drew and Sharon
that were shared during lunch that day. More laughs.
“To whom, then, will you compare God?
What image will you compare him to?”
Isaiah 40:17
