After arriving in the San Pedro Airport,
Alfredo, sporting a beard and looking a bit, as he joked,
like “a terrorist,” gave us a welcoming wave
while we stood in line for customs. Several of the team were
impressed that he could get into that part of the airport.
Alfredo quickly and confidently took us through the terminal to
our transportation. Due to some governmental delays, the bus
that had been delivered to Honduras a month earlier, was
unavailable, so we crammed into two vans, one of which, to my
amazement, was the blue Cerrato Aerostar. The duct tape still
held.
We then travelled out of the heat of San
Pedro to Lake Yojoa where we had a filling lunch. At the
restaurant, Alfredo officially welcomed us and answered some of
our initial questions. We then drove to Siguatepeque where
first saw the wonderful apartments in which we were to stay.
They were quite nicer than anyone of us were expecting.
After settling there, we drove to the
site. The road on the property resembled just about every other
dirt road in Honduras during the wet season: one marked with
plenty of severe potholes. I remembered photos after the
purchase of the land and those from Dante’s visit last
Spring, but to see how much work had been done now was quite
impressive. We could truly see how large the medical clinic
will be. Alfredo described each facet of the building and how
it will be greatly used for the children and families
of La Providencia and the Aguas del Padre community.
As we walked to each of the buildings (the
clinic, warehouse, and first home), Alfredo passionately shared
the vision and what the Lord has done so far through the teams
this year. It was quite inspiring. If we weren’t so
thoroughly exhausted from our early morning travels, we would
have started working right then.
That night we enjoyed a tasty lasagna
dinner, good fellowship, and an early night’s sleep. I
see the team beginning to feel comfortable together, laugh at
each other, and more importantly, how God has uniquely and
providentially brought each of us to Honduras.
“You gave me life and showed me
kindness, and in your providence watched over my
spirit.”
Job 10:12
