To Honor Our Friends

Thus began our last work day with more soreness than any other. Yet, no one complained and instead looked forward to finishing strong. Michael and I remained behind once more to meet with Alfredo the first half of the day. My body was thankful.

We joined everyone at the site bringing lunch. Without any prior discussion with the workers, they all showed up on the rocky pitch for this year’s El Copa de Mundial (World Cup). The U.S. squad eagerly awaited an opportunity to even the series after last year’s 2 to 1 defeat.Since Honduras was well represented (all the workers showed up), we were able to get Daniel Cerrato to play with the Yanks. A fairly close game for the first half hour got out of hand quickly when we gave up three goals in the last five minutes. We lost 5 to 1. We will begin training immediately for a much better showing next year!

The highlight of the day, perhaps the week, was a night to honor the workers and their families at the Cerratos. The meal of the evening was authentic Honduran Chinese food and we served everyone drinks. Twenty five or more children cheerfully ran around while Gaylan and Kelley played trains with several on the dining room floor. Jimmy prayed a blessing in English and Luís in Spanish. Once we finished the wonderful food and fellowship we watched last year’s work team video that Steve had filmed and edited. We the had several of our team members share our thanks to the workers and their families for blessing us with their welcoming hearts and authentic faith. Then several workers graciously extended thanks and appreciation not for only our generosity but all the teams from the U.S. this year. This will be a night none of us would soon forget.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
