I enjoyed a fairly restful slumber and
then the team met at the Cerratos for breakfast. Steve led this
morning’s discussion on the healing of the man that was
lowered through the roof by four faithful friends near where
Jesus stood. He challenged us to consider who we saw ourselves
as in that event.
The first thing I noticed when we arrived
at the worksite was the Monday morning prayer time for the
workers. A model of consistency since this is the same event we
saw last year. Douglas and Mizael gave us a tour of the entire
site. Among the most striking changes were the completed
warehouse, the medical clinic almost halfway complete (and our
walls from last year still up), and all of the cleared and
grated each of the portions allotted for each building. Then
the work began.
Our jobs were to mix concreto and
transport it for the concrete ceiling of each of the bathrooms
for the first children’s home. This was our wake-up call
for Monday. Simply put: we worked hard. Very hard. The soreness
began just that afternoon. A few of us added to the pain by
participating in the traditional “after lunch”
soccer game on the extremely uneven pitch.
After a wonderful dinner, Alfredo shared
the overall model of PWM followed by a showing of Steve’s
DVD of last year’s trip. The Cerrato children
enthusiastically encouraged all of the “Extra
Features” to be shown as well.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of
the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm
place to stand.
Psalm 40:2
